Abiye ~ The Rhythm of Life
A Healing Dance Workshop Series

Restoring Your Inner Rhythm

6-hour Rhythm and Dance Workshop for Women
3 Sundays – Oct 23 & 30, Nov 6
Yoga on 7th, 156 East 7th avenue

“When you walk with another, eventually you create rhythm.”
Jacky Yenga
..

Life begins in rhythm. Rhythm is an integral part of life.
Imagine being in a place where there is no time, only rhythm…
This is where your Soul lives.

Every day you are bombarded with deadlines, to-do lists, tasks and responsibilities that steal your attention away from yourself and leave you depleted. This creates stress, mental and emotional overload and sometimes inner chaos and confusion. It’s time to take a break and return your Soul home.

“There is no time in Nature; there is Rhythm.” – Jacky Yenga

Rhythm is how we learn about life in traditional African villages. We FEEL life!

Join a tribe of sisters on October 23, 30 & November 6.

Why?

Your Soul needs it.

You will experience

  • A deep feeling of connection
  • Authentic Joy from the Heart
  • A sense of inner harmony
  • And more…

In traditional Africa, we follow rhythm, not time.

  • Rhythm is natural to all of us
  • Your Soul knows rhythm
  • You need to feed your Soul for a life with harmony

When we disconnect from the natural rhythm of life and our mind is constantly and primarily focused on time, we move away from the present moment, which affects every aspect of our lives.

In this 3-week series we come back home to ourselves…

“Life in the Village begins with Rhythm.” – Jacky Yenga

NDJOW

A Healing Journey through African Dance

3-hour Intentional Dance Workshop for Women
Saturday, April 9, 2016
At Yoga on 7th

Where do you go when you feel down?

NDJOW is a Healing Dance Journey that takes you back home.
…

Ndjow is “home” in Maka’a, my mother tongue.

Where do you go when you feel down? You go back to what you were taught, to what feels familiar! Whether this is actually what you want or not, you feel compelled to go there… If what you were taught does not feel like a safe and nurturing shelter for you, and you want something else to go back to, you can make that choice.

Home for me is a place where we are supposed to feel safe. It is the place we “should” be able to go back to in order to be nurtured and replenish ourselves. But to feel at home anywhere out there, you have to first feel that way in here…

We all need a place to come back to, a home. To a certain degree, and as an adult, whether that place is safe and welcoming or not is up to you. Yes. Because you make it what it is by the quality of your inner presence. And that quality is a sensation that you feel, which requires you to be in your body to experience it.

That’s the intention of this workshop. It is to experience being at home, feeling safe, embraced and welcomed. We will trigger and sustain the sensation and make the conscious choice to make that our home from now on.

We have become accustomed to living disconnected from our bodies because it feels “safer” to experience life in the mind. But how can we fully participate in our own life when we are disembodied? And why do we have so much difficulty reconnecting with our natural rhythm? In “Ndjow“, we feel our body and we align with our own rhythm.

We already know that we cannot prevent pain from entering our life. Living in our mind is not what keeps us safe. It’s true that we might experience pain from time to time, but what makes a difference in the quality of our life experience is how fast we get back on track after an ordeal, and how accessible and nurturing the place we go to in order to heal and feel whole again is. So we make our body feel safe and welcoming, and we go back to it whenever we need to feel safe, cared for, received and nurtured.

Why African dance for healing?
Because it is a most compassionate form of dance.  The dance steps have to adapt to the dancer, not the other way around.  They are suitable to all body shapes, genders, age groups and fitness levels. The steps are designed for one purpose only: tell your story. And in the process, the dance allows you to connect within at a deeper level, beyond the intellectual understanding.

African dance is a dance form that brings us back into the present moment, into our bodies.  Our dances acknowledge our connection with nature and celebrate our joy for being alive, while enhancing our spiritual connection with the divine and with one another, so that we may support each other.

To dance together is to bless each other.

This workshop is for Women. It’s about nurturing and honoring your body by Being in it and inhabitating it fully. It is also about Feeling Safe and Feeling Received in your own inner Village. In order to live your life fully, you have to actually BE in your body. Your body is your home, at least at the moment, so why not move in and live there? This workshop is an opportunity to befriend your own body, in order to be firmly grounded and deeply rooted in the life you choose for yourself. It’s an opportunity to accept responsibility for the quality of your experience, to truly feel at home and to belong.

Does this make sense to you? If yes, don’t think about it more, simply feel into it and join the dance of life.

Why dance together?
How would you like to KNOW that you are SAFE and NURTURED, and to FEEL RECEIVED? This is what you will experience at “Ndjow“, in the safe embrace of your sisters. Dancing is a powerful practice that allows you to imprint what you want to experience, and to reconnect with your body and access its wisdom. Dancing together is even more powerful and provides deep healing. We dance together because Healing in Community is necessary, it intensifies what you do on an individual level since community is more powerful, and also being together automatically triggers our natural urge and desire to help each other on our journey and to bless each other. How you choose to show up in this life will not only be enhanced by the power of community witnessing your process, but dancing (especially African dance!) is one of the best and most authentic ways to access deeper levels within. After all, it is believed that “Dance is the Hidden Language of the Soul”. So come join the Tribe on April 9th, and receive the blessings of the Soul!

Attending this workshop will help you BE HERE. Less in your mind, more in your body and in your Soul!
